Shipping Out from Shippensburg!

From the Beginning... Ms. Holtry preparing trays for Horticulture Hello everyone! Thank you for coming back again and checking up on me. Just like that, my student teaching experience is coming to a close. It has been a crazy 15 weeks here at Shippensburg, with everything from a new middle school club, teaching Small Gas Engines for the first time, and helping to design the presentation the students gave in front of the School Board.  Looking back at those first few days of student teaching, I cannot believe how much I have grown. Just last week, I was liturgist at church and felt very little nerves getting up in front of the congregation since I have been in front of a classroom for so many weeks. My confidence level moved me from spending 10 hours reviewing the content of my lessons, to be confident in the lesson that I have prepared.   A Small Gas Engine Group Removing the Flywheel Throughout the last 15 weeks I have learned so much content as well, specifically, in Sm...

Attending the PAAE South Central Meeting!

Image
On Tuesday, April 4th, I was able to travel with Miss. Boltz and Mrs. Bier, along with our state officer candidate, Maddie Musser, to Duncannon, Pennsylvania to the Ranch House for the South Central PAAE Regional Meeting.  Maddie, our state officer candidate, attended State Officer Candidate School (S.O.C.S.). The students met in a room across the restaurant, learning more about the commitments  of state office and were given a large amount of time to ask questions.  During the PAAE meeting, we heard from: John Hines, Melanie Berndtson, Sherisa Nailor, Nick Isenberg, Brian Campbell, Dr. Foster, Mr. Brammer, and Mr. Stephon Fitzpatrick. It was exciting to hear what is up and coming for PAAE and how they are planning to continue to be "champions" for Ag Ed. I enjoyed hearing about the increase of scholarships, and what our dues are doing for us! Overall, this meeting served as a chance for me to really feel like a part of the profession. It was so great getting to see all t...

SAEs Take Two, Visiting Krista and the Cows!

Image
My second SAE visit was to visit Miss. Krista Cohick. Krista works on her family dairy farm, Triple K Dairy, and keeps records on this as her Unpaid Placement. Krista also shows Holstein Dairy cows at the Shippensburg Fair, and sometimes the All American Dairy Show, which she has a second SAE for.   Krista is currently in her second year in the Shippensburg FFA. She is serving as the chapter's chaplain this year, which she is very passionate about. Krista spent time at Career Tech for Early Childhood Education for the first half of this school year. Her goal is to become a social worker in the future. Currently, Krista is one of my asynchronous students in Ag Leadership.  Krista works to milk the cows on her family farm. They milk the cows on a regular schedule at 5am and 5pm. Our visit occurred on her family farm in Newburg, Pennsylvania. Prior to the visit Mrs. Bier and I talked about the need for biosecurity, and how I should not wear my barn clothes to the SAE visit seeing...

DIY in the Public Eye!

Image
Hello again! We are here for an update about student teaching, and the DIY project that I have just completed. For the AEE 495 class this semester I was assigned to work with my cooperating teacher, Mrs Bier, to develop a new assignment that will contribute to my growth and development as a teacher candidate.   For my assignment, I chose to work with Shippensburg's FFA officers to prepare for their annual School Board Meeting Presentation. I have been teaching the Ag Leadership class since January 23, a class that gives the FFA officers a look into real world applications of leadership both in and out of the ag industry.  In Ag Leadership, with the help of the officers and Mrs. Bier, I was able to help the students develop their script for what they would say on February 27th at the Regular Shippensburg Area School Board Meeting. We spent time working on the script on February 24th, after the President, Maddie, completed a list of what she thought should be included in the pre...

Writing Your Journey - 2023 ACES Conference

Image
This weekend, Mrs. Bier, Miss Boltz, and I took a group of Shippensburg FFA members to the  Agricultural Cooperation Establishes  Success Conference  (ACES) that is hosted by the Pennsylvania FFA Association. At the conference, members interacted with other members from all over the state of Pennsylvania in workshops lead by some of ou r state's most creative leaders! In the workshops, students participated in activities  to improve their teamwork and leadership skills as well as learning how to network with other FFA members.  We started the day meeting at the high school at 9:45 and I got to learn more about how important planning the timing of your trip is. Students came to the school, and with only a few minor setbacks, we were  on our way to Harrisburg. Getting the chance to participate in the professional  development at ACES was a great insight to how I can incorporate my passion of the outdoors into the Wildlife course. The speaker mentioned ha...

Soaring with the Dover Eagles and Ms. George

Image
On Wednesday, I had the pleasure of visiting Ms. Killian George at Dover Area High School. This was not only to meet the requirement for my course AEE 313, but to also to catch up with my cohort member, Killian, observing and seeing a different teaching style from my own.  Watching Killian teach was amazing! She greeted the Welding students with enthusiasm as they entered the classroom first thing in the morning. The class started by discussing their bellwork, relating back to the work they did on Friday. The students discussed the advantages and disadvantages of TIG welding. Then, students touched based using their sticker chart. I think this chart was very creative and the perfect way for students to know what to do during their work time. I really liked the way this class was structured, and all were able to move on and use their time wisely. The class concluded with a summary of what they would be working on tomorrow. Next, I got to observe her teaching Small Animal Science. I ...

Sailing into Student Teaching with SAE Visits

Image
As I prepared for Students Teaching, I was able to complete SAE Visits with Mrs. Bier. It was exciting to see the variety of SAEs that my students had and hear about their goals going into their next year of SAE.  For my first assigned visit I will be talking about visiting Ryleigh Minor and her SAE. Ryleigh is a Senior this year at Shippensburg Area Senior High School and is serving the FFA Chapter as the Vice President. Beyond her time spent with the FFA, Ryleigh is on the school's Basketball Team!  In preparation for showing her Rabbits, Mrs. Bier and I visited Ryleigh's Rabbitry at her home. For her Rabbitry, Ryleigh raises, breeds, and shows Holland Lop rabbits. To prepare for the visit, Mrs. Bier had looked over Ryleigh's record book to be sure that she was ready for her show. Additionally, Mrs. Bier prepared for the visit by determining the schedule to share for the show with each student we visited that day.   I think that Ryleigh's Rabbitry is so unique an...
