Soaring with the Dover Eagles and Ms. George
Watching Killian teach was amazing! She greeted the Welding students with enthusiasm as they entered the classroom first thing in the morning. The class started by discussing their bellwork, relating back to the work they did on Friday. The students discussed the advantages and disadvantages of TIG welding. Then, students touched based using their sticker chart. I think this chart was very creative and the perfect way for students to know what to do during their work time. I really liked the way this class was structured, and all were able to move on and use their time wisely. The class concluded with a summary of what they would be working on tomorrow.
Next, I got to observe her teaching Small Animal Science. I really enjoyed the way she had the board set up with a summary of what the students were expected to complete, including upcoming assignments and due dates. It was impressive to know that Killian was balancing teaching an Honors and General section of the course at the same time. In this class today students completed a lab about perception. Students completed multiple steps of the lab and were excited to share the results of their tests. The tests were hands on and testing which eyes were dominant and perception in multiple ways. I really enjoyed the way she paused the classes work time and brought them back together to reflect on the lab.
Finally, I got to observe the second section of Small Animal Science. This course is also one classroom full of both a general and honors section. It was so insightful seeing how Killian differentiated instruction for the two courses.
Overall, visiting Killian was a great experience where I got to see some amazing facilities and see some amazing techniques that I want to incorporate into my own classroom. I really enjoyed seeing how well Killian's classes flowed and the strategies she uses.
Here's To The Next Part of the Whole Tree,
Ms. Holtry
It is always encouraging to hear the great things that we learn by watching our colleagues. Enjoy this time, as it can definitely be difficult to take time to go observe others once you are teaching at a full-time position!
