Student Teaching Site Visits

 As I prepared for my field placement interview on March 21st, I was able to travel and visit high schools in search of the perfect Cooperating Center. I was very lucky to have the opportunity to see all four high schools in person, and was happily welcomed by each program. 

I was able to learn a lot more about the specifics I wanted in a Cooperating Center after actually seeing the facilities and talking to the teachers in person. I was happy that each teacher seemed more than willing to have me in their program next spring. Here are a few highlights of the facilities I got to see on my search!

First Stop... Littlestown on February 11th!

Littlestown was a big competition for my FFA Chapter at the State level in High School, especially in the Tractor Restoration Competition and Forestry CDE. During my visit, Mr. Brant was able to showcase his teaching style and give me a look into the content he covers in his Small Gas Engine course. This was great timing because I was learning a lot of the same things in my AEE 349 class. I enjoyed seeing the methods of teaching engine parts, which was a form of around the world the students participated in. 

Next stop... Southern Huntingdon on February 18th!

Snow led to some rescheduling when planning to visit Southern Huntingdon, but we made it! ❄️

Mrs. Booher was able to showcase the community involvement her chapter has, and SAE in the classroom. Southern Huntingdon offers classes in a two year rotation which I think would be a fun perspective to see classes from.

Mrs. Bier was able to show me the new greenhouse that she was able to put in. It was very exciting and fully equipped with state-of-the-art greenhouse gadgets. Mrs. Bier also was able to show me the real close relationships she develops with students. One of her alumni was also shadowing her, and was able to give me the inside scoop about the chapter.

Big Spring Middle School with Mrs. McIntire was very impressive. This program was transformed by Mrs. McIntire from a Tech Ed class into a fully functioning Agriculture program. She made me feel at home from the start with her great personality and smiles. It was great to see the content pathways introduced in both of her Intro to Ag classes. 

Like the rest of the PSU Ag Ed 23 cohort, I am very excited to see where I might be placed next Spring!

This weekend, Mrs. Bier, Miss Boltz, and I took a group of Shippensburg FFA members to the  Agricultural Cooperation Establishes  Success Conference  (ACES) that is hosted by the Pennsylvania FFA Association. At the conference, members interacted with other members from all over the state of Pennsylvania in workshops lead by some of ou r state's most creative leaders! In the workshops, students participated in activities  to improve their teamwork and leadership skills as well as learning how to network with other FFA members.  We started the day meeting at the high school at 9:45 and I got to learn more about how important planning the timing of your trip is. Soaring with the Dover Eagles and Ms. George

On Wednesday, I had the pleasure of visiting Ms. Killian George at Dover Area High School. This was not only to meet the requirement for my course AEE 313, but to also to catch up with my cohort member, Killian, observing and seeing a different teaching style from my own.  Watching Killian teach was amazing! She greeted the Welding students with enthusiasm as they entered the classroom first thing in the morning. The class started by discussing their bellwork, relating back to the work they did on Friday. The students discussed the advantages and disadvantages of TIG welding. Then, students touched based using their sticker chart. I think this chart was very creative and the perfect way for students to know what to do during their work time. I really liked the way this class was structured, and all were able to move on and use their time wisely. The class concluded with a summary of what they would be working on tomorrow. Attending the PAAE South Central Meeting!

On Tuesday, April 4th, I was able to travel with Miss. Boltz and Mrs. Bier, along with our state officer candidate, Maddie Musser, to Duncannon, Pennsylvania to the Ranch House for the South Central PAAE Regional Meeting.  Maddie, our state officer candidate, attended State Officer Candidate School (S.O.C.S.). The students met in a room across the restaurant, learning more about the commitments  of state office and were given a large amount of time to ask questions.  During the PAAE meeting, we heard from: John Hines, Melanie Berndtson, Sherisa Nailor, Nick Isenberg, Brian Campbell, Dr. Foster, Mr. Brammer, and Mr. Stephon Fitzpatrick. It was exciting to hear what is up and coming for PAAE and how they are planning to continue to be "champions" for Ag Ed. I enjoyed hearing about the increase of scholarships, and what our dues are doing for us! Overall, this meeting served as a chance for me to really feel like a part of the profession.
